THANKSGIVING 2008

"It's long enough to put in ponytails!" Taylor exclaimed as she ran her hands through my truthfully very boring hair. I shook my head no, knowing what was running through her mind at that very moment.

"Please Jay?" She asked.
"No. Never." I snickeed.
"Please please please?"
"Fine!" I said, and positioned myself in the middle of her bed, so she could attack my Beatle-esque hair from the front and the back.

Moments later, we rushed down the stairs to show off my new ponytail mowhawk a la Taylor (Sanjaya who?). When we got to the bottom of the stairs, Cuda our chocolate lab, grabbed the giant beef bone (a favourite of hers) and ran toward us, growling with excitement through her teeth. She dropped it on my toe. Expletives followed.

Luke, our 4 month old yellow lab puppy, ran toward me, then bounced off me, to gain momentum for his first lap around the table. The force of his giant 50 pounds against my chest, made me fall back into the counter. My dad walked into the room and rolled his eyes at me. His typical response. He looked to Taylor who had an idea.

"Can I give you a piggy back?" She asked him.
"Okay." he said.

So there we were; Taylor, all five feet one inches of her, carrying my dad, 51 years old and 170 pounds around the house. I watched with amusement as they made their way into the livingroom, all the while Cuda barking through the bone in her mouth, and hopping at Taylor's feet. Luke pounced at me once more for his takeoff, and I followed him into the dining room.

I wondered what the neighbours must think of us, as I stood there with my tiny ponytails sticking up on my head, watching my sister take my dad for a piggy back, and my dogs run laps.

You know what?

I was thankful for that moment. Even the utter lunacy is something to be thankful for at times...

Happy Thanksgiving!
